Summer has finally arrived and it's in full bloom. We made it through the winter, where we "planted" our seeds, and spring, where some of our plans started to bud. Now it's time to embrace the fire in all of us, and go out in nature and move..
In Chinese 5 elements, the season of summer (which is the element of Fire) gives us permission to go out into the world and play. Find that child-like part of you, and find joy in walking in the grass, watching the trees and blooming flowers, soaking up the heat, socializing with friends, forming new relationships. But remember, that if we have too much fire, it can lead to excess and burn out of control, or just burn out from exhaustion.
So in this time of joy and action and doing, remember to take time to cool off and relax and de-stress. Drink lots of water to counter-act excess heat. Be aware of your body, and allow it to rest when it needs rest. Take a dip in a pool, relax at the beach, meditate silently and notice your breath as you watch the waves. But most of all, just chill out and enjoy your summer!.

Springtime in Chinese Medicine
Springtime is “Wood” in Chinese 5 elements theory. It follows “Water” (or Winter). During winter, we slowed down, took time to think, planted “seeds” for what we wanted in the future. Now it’s time to let those seeds start to rise up from the earth and flower. It’s a time to act! It’s also a great time to detox, and take care of yourself (i.e. “spring cleaning” your body/mind/spirit).
Letting Go of Old Anger
At this time of year, it’s particularly good to release pent up anger, and one good way to do this is as follows:
1. Stand with legs apart and planted.
2. Raise arms high above head, with palms facing you, crossed at wrist, and hands
3. Tighten muscles and feel your power; and inhale deeply from nose like you’re
smelling a rose.
4. Now as you exhale through mouth (like blowing out a candle), quickly and
powerfully uncross arms and bring them down to sides, while opening fists.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 above, two more times

The United States citizens have just elected a new president. This election cycle has been a time of great controversy, with many ups and downs and twists and turns along the way. Many are stressed and exhausted by the long process. Regardless of who you voted for, it's now time to pause and reflect upon the fact that the election is over, and it's time for people to come together and heal.
In the five elements cycle, we are at the end of Autumn, which is the end of a cycle. Leaves turn color, and start to gently fall off trees, making room for new growth later in the spring. Winter is quickly coming. Winter is a time to pause, reflect on where we are and where we want to go. It is a time for things to germinate below the surface, in anticipation of new growth coming in spring.
So I urge you all to slow down, take the time to take care of yourselves. If you're happy about the election resutls, rejoice in that, and find a way to be sensitive to others who are going through a mourning process, and be receptive to others ideas and opinions. If you're upset about the election results, now is the time to step back, lick your wounds, be kind to yourself, and look for ways to go forward in a positive way.
We really are all stronger when we see each other as just human beings, with commonalities as well as differences. If we all focus on common goals, we can accomplish a lot going forward together.
From an energy perspective, it's a good time to turn off the news for a while and meditate, or if you don't know how to do that, just sit quietly with some good, relaxing music, and don't forget to breathe!!

Winter will soon transition into spring. Now is the time for introspection, for taking time to sit quietly, breathe deeply, and go deep within. It's time to plant the seeds that will germinate and sprout when spring arrives.
